1. Write an attractive meta description for your blogspot blog
If you already have your Blogspot blog then on your blogger dashboard, click “Settings” and then on “Search preferences” click on “Edit” link under “Meta tags Description”. After this click “yes” radio button to enable search description. Then write an attractive blogger Meta Description. Remember the maximum length of the Meta description can be 150 characters including everything (alphabets, numbers, special characters and spaces). Mention your main keywords in your blogspot Meta description but it should not sound fragmented means Meta descriptions should be 2 or 3 meaningful sentences and inclusion of your keywords should be natural. Now after writing and reviewing your blogger Meta description click “Save changes” button to save it.
2. A compelling post title with keywords is very much important
Post or article title is one of the biggest on-page SEO factors for high ranking of blog posts. Try to write a compelling post title within 70 to 80 characters (as it is going to be your article page title). Include your primary keywords within your post title and if possible then start writing your post title with the keywords and format them meaningfully. Be careful that your post title should not be keyword stuffed rather it should be optimized with one or two keywords and must be a meaningful sentence or phrase.
Post titles not only help to get organic traffic from Google and other search engines but they also generate good amount of referral and social traffic from different other websites and social medias. Search on Google with your article topic and Google will list some of the related keywords at the bottom of the organic results. These keywords are called LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) Keywords and are great for content optimization.

They help in knowledge sharing, visitors can navigate to the linked pages for additional knowledge on a topic and outbound links are also used to build relationships with fellow bloggers, authors and webmasters etc., which indirectly help in SEO. Always remember to out link to a website or a webpage with PR, credibility, authority more than your blog with great content which must be someway related to your blog post. Depending on the site you are linking to you can make them a nofollow link (rel=”nofollow”). For external linking it is better to use “Open this link in a new window” option to open the external website/page in a new tab.

After finishing the writing and optimization of the blogspot article and crafting the post title for it, the next thing we have to do is to set its permalink. Permalinks are used to format and optimize the URL of the blogger blog post. There are certain rules to create an optimized URL for a post.
- Keep it short and simple. Ideally an Blog post URL should be of maximum 50 characters long.
- Separate words within an URL with dashes (-).
- Include keywords into blog post URLs.
At the right hand side of the “new post” page, under “Post settings” you should see “Links” option. Click on it and select “Custom permalink” radio button and write an optimized URL on your blog post topic.
5. Write appealing and to the point blogger search description
If you have enabled Blogspot Meta Description for your blogger blog then you should see search description option under “Post settings”. Write a good description about your current blog post within 150 characters. Blogger search description is nothing but the Meta description of your blogger article (post) pages. So write an optimized but meaningful description for your organic visitors which is attractive, keyword rich (not stuffed) and grammatically correct.
6. Permanent and temporary redirects
This is a very important part of SEO for blogger blogs and should be used very cautiously. This setting is used to redirect an old blog post URL to its new URL. There are couple of situations when it can be very much helpful. Suppose you wrote and published an article few days back and now you want to change its URL and if you do so then the old (might be indexed) URL will no longer be found (404 page not found). And now if any person from search engine (in case the old URL is indexed) or from any other website (a social link or general backlink) clicks on that old link then the person would land on a 404 error page. If it happens continuously then that old link will get de-indexed from SERP and eventually you will lose traffic and an indexed link. The solution for this is to redirect the old link to the current / new link and if the change from the old URL to the new URL is permanent then the redirection must be permanent (301) otherwise the redirection should be temporary (302).
To do so you need to click “Setting” on blogger dashboard and then click “Edit” link under “Custom Redirects”. Click on “New redirect” and input the old URL in “From” filed and input the new URL in “To” field. In both cases remove the domain name (example.blogspot.com) from the URLs before inputting. If the change of the URL of a blog post is permanent then click the “Permanent” check box otherwise leave it and click “Save” and finally click “Save changes” button to save the redirection.
